I studied Bioinformatics at the Ludwig-Maximilians University and Technical University Munich. After graduation, I worked as a research scientist at the Plant Genome and System Biology Group at Helmholtz Center Munich. During this time I focused largely on whole genome and transcriptome analyses, comparative genomics, evolutionary sequence analysis, analysis of supernumerary B chromosomes, gene prediction and functional annotation.

During my Ph.D. I analysed the genomes of complex cereal crops, like rye, wheat, and barley. I developed and implemented novel strategies to unravel their genomes, and performed comparative genomics analyses among them.
